Purpose of the AssessmentThe adult autism assessment determines whether an individual meets diagnostic criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as outlined in the DSM-5-TR or ICD-11. The process also provides tailored recommendations for supports, accommodations, and therapeutic interventions.Adults may seek an autism assessment for reasons such as:Lifelong traits consistent with autismCo-occurring mental health conditions (e.g., ADHD, anxiety)Challenges in relationships, employment, or sensory regulation2. Assessment Componentsa. Pre-Assessment ScreeningStandardised questionnairesDevelopmental history forms (input from a parent or caregiver is helpful, if available)b. Diagnostic Assessment – Multidisciplinary Consensus TeamConducted jointly by a psychologist and psychiatrist, the assessment includes:Initial psychiatric evaluationNeurodevelopmental interview exploring social, communication, sensory, and behavioural traits across life stagesPsychometric testingc. Collateral InformationInput from family members or review of past reports (e.g., school or workplace)A phone consultation may be arranged to gather early developmental history when neededd.
